Family: Rosaceae

Provenance: Collected in Lowell, MA from a Craigslist ad, 2 of 2 sand cherries and a large burning bush. Small of the two sand cherries. Found growing in a large drain pipe used as a planter. Large downward taproots severed during removal, but many feeder roots maintained. Reduced from ~6′ to a 10″ stump.

Date Acquired: 4/1/2016

Approx. Age at Acquisition: ~5 years

Notes:

-4/2016, Plant removed and reduced drastically to stump, bare-rooted and root pruned. Potted in wooden training box in 45% turface, 45% grit, 10% pine bark mulch, with sphagnum moss around large severed taproots to encourage new growth.

-5/2016, Growing vigorously with many new shoots. Stems cut back to leaders.

-9/2016, Tree growing strongly.

-11/3/2016, Tree composted to make room for beech and dogwood acquisitions.
