Provenance: From cutting. Extra plant from the 2016 Arnold Arboretum plant give-away. Around 3′ high, reduced to ~12″ with multiple trunks.

Date Acquired: 9/2016

Approx. Age at Acquisition: <2 years


-9/2016, Left in pot and reduced to ~12″ for storage sake. Repotting next spring.

-10/2016, Fertilized with low-nitrogen fertilizer to prep for dormancy.

-11/15/2016, Trunks wired into position and senesced leaves removed. Tree moved inside for winter storage.

-2/28/17, Buds beginning to swell with warm temps. Tree uprooted and root pruned, planted into a small bonsai pot to be trained as a mame.

-4/18/17, Tree leafed out and fertilized with acid-loving fertilizer.

-9/4/17, Tree grew strongly through summer. Many new branches.

-1/5/18, Tree grew strongly in fall. Overwintering on porch.
