Provenance: Volunteer seedling from Arnold Arboretum accession 408-97*A.

Date Acquired: 8/2016

Approx. Age at Acquisition: <2 years old

Notes:

-8/2016, Tree collected and planted root-over-rock in training pot in standard 45/45/10 mix and covered with sphagnum moss.

-10/10/2016, Fertilized with low-nitrogen fertilizer to prepare for dormancy.

-12/5/16, tree brought inside for winter storage.

-2/28/17, tree uprooted and roots secured around stone using raffia. Tree pruned back hard to be grown as mame.

-4/18/17, Tree fertilized with acid-loving fertilizer.

-9/4/17, Tree grew freely through summer. Most satisfactory.

To do: Choose a style. Wire with thick gauge wire and prune to shape?
