Family: Rosaceae

Provenance: Propagated from hardwood cutting collected from Arnold Arboretum accession after spring storm.

Date Acquired: 4/2016

Approx. Age at Acquisition: Cut stem <2 years old

Notes:

-4/2016, Cutting potted in standard potting soil.

-10/10/2016, Cutting budded and grew single strong leader during summer. Began changing to fall color in early October. Fertilized with low-nitrogen fertilizer for winter prep. Will be repotted next spring and roots organized.

-11/20/16, Leaves have dropped after changing a brilliant red. Tree brought inside back hall for winter storage.

-2/28/17, Tree uprooted and root-pruned hard. Many new roots growing strongly. Tree planted in larger ceramic pot in standard mix, in order to grow out.

-9/4/17, Tree grew strongly through summer, slightly thickening. Several leaders. Some sprouts spotted at base.

To do: style must be selected.. multistemmed clump? Or more formal design? Must be slip potted in spring to encourage more root growth.
